The brief
A café whose menu existed only as a PDF. Anyone asking on a phone what a quiche costs downloaded 2.86 MB and then zoomed into a double page.
Decisions
- 01
Ninety items as text
The whole menu carried over from their own PDF, prices unchanged — readable at 390 pixels without zooming, and findable by Google.
- 02
Booking is a phone call
The café takes reservations by phone only, on weekdays only. That is what the button says, instead of a form nobody reads.
- 03
Bilingual, because the guests are
German and English on every page, with a switch that stays on the same page.
- 04
No third-party server
Their site loads from seven foreign hosts before consent, Adobe and Google Tag Manager among them. Ours from none.
Result
Eight pages, German and English. The pictures are placeholders — real photography is the one thing this project still needs before production.
