The brief
An old inn in a tourist quarter whose site spoke no English and whose menu existed only as a PDF. Guests stand outside in the evening wanting three things: are you open, what is there, is a table free.
Decisions
- 01
Bilingual, and the switch stays put
Every page in German and English. The language switch lands on the same page, not back on the home page.
- 02
Opening status that survives midnight
A house open until one in the morning is open at half past midnight. Most implementations say “closed” at that point.
- 03
The menu is text, not a document
Readable without zooming, findable by search, editable in two minutes. It is removed from this case view — the prices would identify the house.
- 04
The directions page shows a map again
The old site called a mapping interface switched off in 2013. An empty box had been sitting there ever since.
Result
Twenty pages, both languages equally maintained, and a gallery that needs a sixth of the requests the old one did.
